Robbed

I live in a building that is a cross between a dormitory and an apartment. In 2007 I kept my food in my room for safety until I found a mouse in my room. Then I kept most of my things in cupboards in the shared kitchen. At least 30 people have access to the [...]

International Mouse

I’m afraid that my food will be stolen. My new neighbour is rude and loud… probably a thief too. A mouse is now living in the wall beside my bed. This is the second time I’ve had this kind of neighbour since I moved to the International House in Halifax.

Mid-Autumn Festival /

Happy Mid Autumn Festival everyone!

只有一个人唱一首英文歌：《I Believe I can Fly》（原文歌手：R. Kelly）。 。。 。。

Welcome to Jeju Island, Korea

Two days ago I my plane landed a world away from Nanchang, China on the beautiful island of Jeju. Jeju Island is located off the southern tip of the Korean peninsula. I’ll be here for about a month to visit with good friends before returning to China for more travel and school.
I went to a [...]

Inconvenient convenience store

The other day I took a walk on Zhong Shan Road (中山路 zhōngshānlù) which is part of the shopping centre of Nanchang. I’ve never gone shopping there, but I still enjoy the area with it’s crowds of shoppers and activity.
Zhong Shan Road is dotted with mostly middle-aged ladies trying to grab my attention with cries [...]

Canada Post stamp: Year of the pig

CBC reports that Canada Post (加拿大的邮局) has released it’s latest stamp celebrating the year of the Pig.
I think most Chinese people I’ve met (and foreigners too) are quite surprised when I say how Chinese traditions are woven into Canadian life. A symbol of a Chinese festival being specially acknowledged in this way does not seem [...]

Preparing for winter

As the temperature continues to drop in Nanchang, my friends in Canada continually remind me that, while it’s much colder in Canada, they wouldn’t want to live with the cold of Nanchang.
My friend in Dawson Creek, BC recently told me about temperatures of -37°C (with windchill) and a good 5 feet (1.5 meters) of snow. [...]
