Labour week holiday
The first 7-days of May is a major labour holiday in China. Of the 3 courses I’m taking this semester, the first has just finished and the next will begin after the holiday. In a few hours I depart from Tianjin to my next destination: Seoul, South Korea. The ferry takes more than 24-hours from Tianjin to Incheon and then I’ll probably bus to Seoul. I’ll get 5-days in Korea before returning to finish class.

Is there Labor Day in your country? there are 7 days off in China during Labor Day. many office worker take it as a long holiday just as Spring holiday.

That’s a good question zmzw. Yes, we do take a Labour Day. The first Monday of September is Labour Day in Canada (and also in the USA). In Canada, the day after is the first day of school.
Our holidays are only 1-day each, so the 7-day holiday’s during the Mid-Autumn Festival and Labour Day seem so long to me. I like them a lot, though. When I imagine *so* many people travelling around China during these holidays I think only 1-day is not enough.

thanks for your response! so i know the phrae “labour day” is more appropriate than “May Day” that is only used in China and other social democracy countries.
by the way, what’s your major? do you teach English in Tianjin,China.
