Page 161, Sentence 5
For kicks and giggles, I decided to play along with a little meme that I just read about at Bound by Gravity. Here’s the idea
- Grab the nearest book.
- Open it to page 161.
- Find the fifth sentence.
- Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
- Don’t search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what’s actually next to you.
So here’s what I get: “Go to the Exhibit Hall to find the link to the Magna Carta.” The previous sentence tells you to go to the National Records Administration’s web site to understand how the Magna Carta influenced the writing of the US Constitution.
I’m working on a case evaluation for my class on Corporate Law, thus my book is everyone’s favourite bedside reader “The Legal, Ethical and International Environment of Business (5th ed)” by Herbert M. Bohlman and Mary Jane Dundas.
While the textbook is an excellent one, I would have much rather taken a line from the novel I’m reading called “Chronicle of a Blood Merchant” by Yu Hua. C’est la vie!
I’d specifically like to tag Steve with this one, if only to give him a moment of distraction from the intense preparation for final exams coming quickly upon students in Canada.

Ok, the book is “To close for Comfort” by Maude Barlow, for my Political science course. The Sentance: “To ensure compliance with these commitments (WTO, NAFTA, GATS) domestically, the Canadian Government has been putting all policy and regulations under the microscope of experts from DFAIT and Industry Canada.” Pretty dry stuff but scary. Having Business run our domestic policies.

DFAIT and Industry Canada are not business, they are Canadian government. Government provides their mandates. Unless you decide to make policy with reckless disregard to the economic impact of its concequences, it seems pragmatic to at least consult with impacted parties. Sounds like an interesting book… to me, at least.

From New Practical Chinese Reader, Textbook, Book 1 (isbn: 7561910401).
It’s a pretty good textbook.
