Statscan RSS feeds available
Since there doesn’t seem like much happening in domestic politics to write about these days (sarcasm intended), I think this is a pretty awesome development at Statscan. Now you can use Firefox live bookmarks, or — my favourite — Thunderbird’s RSS reader to keep up with Statscan’s publication, The Daily.
The Government of Canada Newsroom has also adopted RSS (look for the orange “XML” button in the left-column). The newsroom is an interesting source for “News releases, Warnings/Advisories, Media Advisories, Speeches, Reports”.
This is great — especially if you have a propensity to be well-read in obscure news and trends. At least it shows both the trend of mainstream adoption of a fantastic technology (that only sounds complicated), and that the IT people working for the Canadian federal government gather no moss.

RSS is your friend. I love RSS, I don’t know how I made use of the Internet without it. I am always surprised how well the Government has managed to get information online.
I googled ‘Kamloops Blogs’ and found your site. I read that Indymedia post of yours from back in January, and I often wonder the same thing: is it an editorial decision or is the non-extremeleft under-represented? I attended the inaugural meeting of the IMC when it opened in Kamloops last year, and so far I haven’t had anything to do with it. I don’t suppose it’s a result of my opinions? I let them know exactly who I am and where I stand on some issues, and I haven’t been in touch since… I wonder if it’s just a far-left, elitist club.

I hear you Chris, RSS is the same for me — I read so much online that it took only a day or two for me to realize that I wouldn’t be able to live without it. Now that I’m preparing for China, I’ve purged myself of all my feeds. It’s basically the equivalent of reading several major and minor newspapers every day for several years and then suddenly cancelling your subscriptions.
My post about Kamloops Indymedia seems to reflect more than a few people in Kamloops. Most of the people I know checked it out and gave up on it. I long since stopped reading it as I didn’t feel like it was brining forth any real news. The only way I can see their spectrum of opinion broadened would be by posting your own articles.
