What is REALLY going on here?

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

I wish I had a better understanding of what the federal Liberals are doing right now. There must be something interesting developing behind closed doors in Parliament. As an outsider with a limited understanding of how our government really works, I’m having a hard time understanding how Paul Martin’s government can claim yesterday’s vote was not enough to bring down the government, and yet I fully understand what Mr. Martin is referring to when he talks about respecting the importance of parliamentary proceedure (even if I’m not personally an expert).

I’m willing to consider that I might be wrong, but, from what I’ve been reading lately, I’m in good company. My gut feeling is that the government has lost legitimacy, and it’s time for the electorate to do its duty.

As I’m currently taking two political science classes, I’m curious if the May 17th BC provincial election is actually having any effect on the decisions. I’m too tired tonight to analyze the subject much deeper. Regardless of the hidden factors, like the young Justin Trudeau has said, I am fearful that the ugliness of our political situation will empower Québecois seperatists:

“That’s one of the things that really scares me right now,” said the younger Trudeau. “I think we are far closer to the separation of Quebec than we have been for a very long time and I don’t think anyone in Ottawa particularly, but in the rest of Canada, is aware or ready to deal with it.”

Most people I’ve talked to today don’t even have a clue that there is a political storm brewing underway, and the face of Canada could easily change under our very noses.

VE Day, Neo-Nazis, and Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

As many around the world celebrate VE Day, there is are constant reminders that the evils of yesteryear are still very much present today: Berlin Police Foil Plans For March by Neo-Nazis.

Like Derek Miller, I find my thoughts of these events a strange contrast with the celebration of Mother’s Day.

Nink News: When modifiers dangle

Sunday, May 8th, 2005

I almost peed myself laughing. When modifiers dangle:

From the mouth’s of one of our Easter Dinner guests:
“I think my most embarrasing sex story is when I walked into the kitchen and found my parents having sex on the counter with my sister.”

… silence…

“what?”

Go say hi to my ol’ friend, Hornchick

Almost two years after attending any arts events, the fantastic performance of the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra made me want to fall in love with the arts all over again. I am constantly amazed at the qualities of this city.

Toilet Bowl Restaurant

Friday, May 6th, 2005

If, as I hope to, get the chance to visit Taiwan, I must visit the restaurant appropriately named: Toilet Bowl. ←Check out the awesome photos!

It’s a restaurant in Taiwan with a modern decor and a full-on toilet theme. The thorough implementation includes toilet chairs, urinal sconces, and even commode shaped serving pieces. Probably not the best place to bring a child in potty training…

Linux virus spreading rapidly!

Wednesday, May 4th, 2005

Oops! My mistake. It’s another nasty Windows virus.

Linux isn’t what I’d call perfect, but I almost feel sorry for Windows users when I read stuff like that.
