Special software can read RSS feeds and allow you to read the content of a website very easily. I use the email program Thunderbird, which is capable of reading RSS feeds; everytime I check my email, it tells me if my favourite sites have been updated. Each website gets its own folder, and new content appears just like emails do. I can read what I want and ignore the rest. If I were to check each site manually, it would take me hours, but the software makes it so simple for me to keep up with many sites. I stick to only 20+ sites, but I know people who follow over a hundred!

While I'm in China, I will probably use an online service for getting my RSS feeds. Bloglines is one that I've heard of and I know Yahoo! offers a feed-reading feature that one can add to their MyYahoo page.

When I first read about RSS, I thought it sounded like a techie fad and I didn't really care. After a while, I reluctantly decided I ought to at least try it out. I was shocked that after two days I could see it was a technology that saved me huge amounts of time. So my warning is that if you try it, you may not want to be without again.
