Not 10 minutes ago, I was about to write about what a great time I had at the Firefox release party, when Tina called out to me: “something’s wrong with the cat again!” Oh shit.
I ran out of the office and there was Lico, trying to cough up choking on something. Of course, with the recent seizures, we can’t take anything for granted. We thought it might be a hairball, and while her mouth hung open, I could see the yellow sticky mass stuck in the back of her mouth. The other cat walked up to Lico and nuged her side gently, and in true cartoon fashion (no joke), Lico — as if she were literally frozen — fell over to her side without movement. The image of her teetering over is burned in my mind.
I took some photos of her, and a couple videos just in case it helped describe the episode to the vet later. A few minutes of laying still, legs positioned as if she were still standing, she finally adjusted her position. I think the unwanted attention she was getting encouraged her to find a quieter spot down the hall. She moved so slowly, and her nose twitched heavily with labourous breathing. It’s difficult to watch.
She seems to be okay now. She’s hiding in her box in the hallway, taking it easy.
The medicine she’s been perscribed for the past few days has taken a noticable effect on her personality. She has always been such an active jumper — from counters to tops of doors, and sometimes she’ll jump up on my sweaters and climb up my back, just to perch on my shoulder — and her coordination has noticeably suffered. I think the medicine is a barbiturate, which is known to affect coordination (at least in humans).
