Internet Explorer Headlines
It still boggles my mind that anyone is still using Internet Explorer these days.
Even the mere suggestion of an alternative program from a company other than Microsoft will give you the label of anti-Microsoft zealiot. Well people, I have some news for you: get your heads out of the sand. From a practical perspective, Microsoft is not developing IE any further for anyone using up to, and including, Windows XP. For Win98 users there will be some very limited security patches coming, but they are trying to ‘encourage’ you to upgrade to Windows XP. XP users will be treated okay, until Microsoft releases Longhorn. In fact, MSFT has made it clear they have rewritten the core of IE in such a way it will not be compatable with Windows XP. So if you upgrade, or purchase a new Windows-based computer today, you have a publically announced timeline (roughly the end of 2006) until you’ll be required to upgrade again. Time is ticking.
The Department of Homeland Security made it clear that using IE is dangerous. Unlike those ‘threat level’ warnings, there is overwhelming evidence available to show this is not unfounded. So while I’m not saying Microsoft is evil, or some childish remark, I’m simply trying to remind people that there are benefits that come from using a broswer like Firefox.
We all recognize what a difference the Google Toolbar made by blocking pop-ups. Well, Firefox does it naturally, plus it has other built-in features such as: tabbed browsing, integrated search (easily set to Google, Yahoo, or whatever floats your boat), live bookmarks, banner ads, and more. Firefox can also be extended to block annoying flash animated adverts, and an incredible list of extra optional features that will make your experience online much easier.
