Honest political discussion - that’s a nice change

Wow, what a class today. Economics 190: Intro to Microeconomics is turning out to be a decent class now that I’ve sucessfully changed teacher. Nothing is fundamentally challenging, or inherently difficult, but at least the teacher is on-topic and getting us right into the material.

It wasn’t economics that ignited my day; Political Science: Intro to Political Ideologies takes the cake! Our prof is cool, calm and collected and seems to know his stuff thoroughly. I listened to him lecture for three hours today, while I furiously took notes despite constant hand-cramping. Following the conversation, keeping good notes, and occasionally participating can be somewhat of a mental excercise in itself. What I love most about this class is the honest examination of political idologies; no one is purporting to dictate what beliefs are right or wrong. Frankly, I think some of the material we’ve covered in only two classes really belongs in high-school—although it’s impossible to imagine such potentially politically charged material into the system without being biased beyond value. In many ways honest political discussion is really missing from the Canadian Education System. Instead, course material attempts to tip-toe around such topics while plowing through (seemingly) irrelevant facts about confederation, past prime-ministers, etc. I can only imagine what the American eduction system is like, but since ideology is very important to the American Revolution, I cannot imagine some devotion to the topic.

It’s been a good day, and I have plenty of work to do.
